Default High oil pressure problem!!

so for the last couple of weeks or so i've been noticing my oil pressure is high. hot idle it's sitting over 50. after i drive it for 10-15 min it'll go down into the 40's. when the rpm comes up it will see 70's at about 3000rpm or so (hot). cold idle is over 60.

i've run GC 0w30 for over a year now with wix filters, and last time i checked my oil it still looked brown with 2-3k miles on it. it's not time to change it yet, and i've used these filters before so i'm sure the filter isnt clogged. the oil is also leaking out of the front of the engine around the timing cover and oil pump area, under the water pump. i'm adding a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so. pretty significant leak.

so where do i need to start checking?

First of all I dont see anything wrong with your oil pressure
I use M1 0w-40 and mine runs about the same but at WOT the oil pressue guage pegs out

Second, synthetic oil should only be slightly brown at 3k miles but still somewhat golden if you completely drain the oil pan at change time.

As for the oil leaking thats an entirely differant problem probably from a torn or worn out gasket, but without really looking at it Im just kind of throwing ideas out there

High pressure doesn't concern me as much as low oil pressure.Atleast you know it isnt clogged or going out on you.

So with oil pressure, the more the better? I thought that it isn't safe to run with high pressure? Kinda like adding 7 quarts of oil in a 6 quart pan.

no guys this isnt normal. it used to run 10-15 psi LOWER than this regularly! nothing has changed. and i did not have any leaks before this started happening either. i'm pretty sure the leak is directly related to the high oil pressure.

now that i think about it, could a clogged filter cause this? or a clogged pcv system?

Low pressure is when failure happens. His pressure is fine, and it could be the sending unit that is having a problem if it is acting up the way he is describing. You don't want too much, but higher pressure isn't a bad thing.

Are you running a breather or an LS6 pcv?

you can get leaks by building crankcase pressure but oil pressure i don't think so

why would the oil pressure then just decide to increase all of a sudden?

you also have to remember that your oil pressure might be higher due to temperature decrease.

I agree, the higher pressure is good, but if it happened out of thin air, I would put a meter on the oil pressure sender and see if its on the up and up. That way there at least you'll know.

I'm about to go to 0W40 from 5W30, so I am curious what I am going to see.
