yes skip the magnets. IDK if i was the lucky one but when i used those dam magnets one stuck on top my lifter and added about two more hours of magnet recovery to my cam swap. once i got that ******* magnet off i bought some aluminum rods and wrapped them in the loop part of the velcro.

Yeah, don't use the magnets. They are just glued onto the top of the telescoping piece. I have done a few methods of holding up lifters up and this one scared me the most.

the pen magnets work great. a tip is to super glue the edge of the magnets for further insurance.

I used steel rods from ace. You will have to grind on the top of the driver side rod to make it work but its better than using wood or magnets. IMO.

i used a 6' steel 5/16 dowel from Home Depot, cut it in half, and bent the ends up to use as a handle. no grinding, flatening, etc and it worked fine.

Wood worries me as if you catch it wrong you could send wood shavings into your motor...

Use hard wood. Mine were like$.78 a piece. The brake line and steel rods are not to my liking....Either aluminum (soft) or wood.

You made the right decision. Wood is a poor choice incase it breaks or splinters. Cover those rods with some oil and slide them in. That is what I used and they worked great. I had to grind off a bit on the passenger side one. Good luck
