Default Head Gasket Bore Size !!!

Hi guys...

Could some body care to explain the principle of choosing the bore size of a head gasket ?

I know that the thickness is to increase or decrease the CR

But the Bore !! for example lets say i have 4" bore block what gasket bore size should i use (4.000, 4.030. 4.060, 4.100 or 4.130 ) and why ? determine that this is the right size ?

cylinder bore determines gasket bore...use the closest size available....

-1 on that...

Your combustion chamber should determine the size gasket used. You'll want to use the closest match for the bore the chamber was designed for. If you are running an L92 head for example, the larger bore that the chamber is designed around could leave a gasket for a regular 6.0L head exposed.

If I recall correctly, there are 4.065" gaskets out there now for that reason.

hammertime is right on this one. Measure width wise across your combustion chamber and see what it is, then pick or make a gasket closest around that size.

Hammertime and oange ss are actually both correct. You need gaskets made for whichever is bigger, the cylinder bore or combustion chamber. If the bore is bigger, use that measurement. If the chamber is bigger, use that measurement.

Use the closest as you can find ,But bigger not smaller ,you don't want the head gasket hanging over in the cylinder.
