ptv clearance... should i fly cut?
i clayed my engine and found i have .070 ptv clearance on the intake with the stock graphite head gasket that came off. the exhaust has plenty of clearance and i know i'm ok there. i have read that you want .080 on the intake but was wondering if i should risk it with .070 because i really don't want to fly cut, although it wouldn't be bad considering the engine is out of the car just don't want to do it if i don't have to. i'm running hand ported 5.3 that have been milled (not sure how much got them used) i also had a local machine shop mill them a little to clean them up and do a valve job with 2.00 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves the cam is the new era streetsweaper 236 240 .630 .610 111 lsa and i will be running a gm mls head gasket. what do you guys think should i run it or cut it?

Do you have an adjustable timing set? You could retard the cam 1* if you need a bit more room. I have heard of guys running in the high .050's, but that scares me. Personally, I would prefer to have it at least .080 for peace of mind.

Stock valve train...some weight saving might make another little bit of difference...
Do you use those engines as daily driver, and do the engine last for 60 000 miles before rebuilt???
About race engines, A1GP and similar run to 13000 rpm, very thight PtV clearence...
