There are GTO people running the Rollmaster double and the Melling 10296 with minimal clearencing to make fit. How do some easliy make it work and other have to re-engineer it?

Not sure what the major difference is, but mine was definately re-engineered. We used a brake lathe and turned the front cover of the oil pump. We also ended up using button head screws for the oil pump to engine block and the front cover of the oil pump. Then we ended up clearancing the front timing cover in several spots and milling the thickness of the metal o-ring in the front cover that the front seal rests against. It was an involved process, but will be worth it I'm sure when it's in the car and running well.

So are you guys saying that the 10296 & 10295 are the SAME pump, save the fact that the 95 has been machined to clear the timing cover and pickup tube?

I ask because I was thinking of picking up the SLP double roller from a member here:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/lsx-parts...iming-set.html

I was also thinking of using the Edelbrock 2 piece timing cover:

Thanks guys!

Well since I raised the dead, might as well continue, lol.

from what I just found, the 96 offer an 18% increase in volume over stock pumps vs. the 95 with only a 10% increase. I guess there is a difference between the two outside the clearance issues.

alright, as long as we keep raising the dead, I'll ask my question:

Is the stock pump really inadequate? As it is I hear about issues with pumping the oil pan dry with the f-body pan in autocross situations... isn't a high volume pump just going to make that even worse? Stock LS motors seem to run forever... what makes a modified one need more oil?
