Default LS1 reliablity?

I am looking into a 98 to 02 trans am and was wondering; how long before a LS1 starts getting tiered. How many miles have you guys been getting? There are a lot of cars out there with just over 100 thousand. This would be a car I am not using as a daily driver. I am assuming that a car is not beat to heck, not that it never had an burnouts but no raced light to light ever chance the previous owner got.

Mine gets daily driven 300+ miles a week in all weather conditions year round & has about 115k on the clock right now. We didn't even open the motor until it had 103k on it & it still had original cross hatching in the bore.

If well maintained these motors can last for a long time. GM did good when they jumped on the LS platform. Way more reliable than the older F-bodies.

As long as you run good oil and a FULL tuneup when you get it... It will run flawless

I bought a stock 00 Z28 at 76k, she's at 94k now and absolutely NO motor problems, trannies and rears are always gonna be the way they are, they'll blow whenever they feel like it. But as far as the ls1 goes, ur not going to get one that has never seen a burnout or been raced, unless you buy a single owner 02 w/ 2k on it and the owner was an 80yr old lady...and even then...lol. But these motors, when not under the control of a douche, are billetproof (lol lil play on mustangs) If you tune it up, keep it maintained, and be suspicious of every little thing, she'll last as long as you can keep up. I personally know 3 guys with 300+k on stock LS1 C5 Vettes. Heh it's a shame i know, but they drive those cars EVERYWHERE and just simple things like water pumps, timing chains, keeping an eye on plugs/wires can make these things last like a beat honda. Only much faster and happier. GL man!!

ps if your going to work on it, go for a 00+. The 98-99s are a F-in pain to work on.

Thanks that is what I was looking for. Not to be afraid of a Trans am with 100,000 on it.

I did a compression check on mine at around 103k and it was around 174 - 182 on all cylinders. they last a long time...it just depends on how they are cared for

Ls1's are tough but its like anything else, depends on how well its been taken care of...

92k here....as mentioned before, as long as it was taken care of, and regular maintenance has been done, there's nothing to worry about.
