And you will want to check the PTV clearance if your running 23x cams with those heads cause you might have to flycut the pistons. Stick to a 22x cam cam to be safe. Hear a lot of good things about the Thunder Racing 224 cam.

Well brother I didn't have time to read all comments. But heres my two cents. You can always use a bit thicker gasket to lower compression numbers. I have afr's milled to 59cc's and use a .040 gasket. Compression is around 11.5 to 1 or a bit more or less. I use 93 octane with 28 degrees of timing. Your 92 octane fuel should hold up ok with a bit less compression, or you may have to sacrifice a bit of timing. Good luck brother, hope everything works out for ya.

We are getting pretty close, and you have all been a great help. Looking at doing the 228R on 112 or 114 (still deciding that one), with hardened pushrods, new chain, LS6 pump, and using the MLS head gaskets. The used heads don't have springs, but I can get an awesome deal on a NIB Crane spring kit (Thunder racing Part #40-144832-KIT). This is dual spring, 650 lift, Ti retainers, seals, and shims. I don't know much about these springs, are they a good deal? Looks like they exceed our needs, but thats okay.

The Crane 144832 is a good spring. Install it at 1.740" installed height by using a .060 shim. This will give you 125 lbs. on the seat and 350 lbs. over the nose. Installed at 1.740" you could use up to .635 lift and maintain the .060 minimum coil clearance.
