Default Take a look at this Intake Port PIC

853 castings with 2.02 1.575. CNC'd
Is there supposed to be that much valve guide exposed?

I've got the 5.3 casting as well and it doesn't have quite that much exposed but it's got about a quarter of an inch exposed at the bottom. I would say it's ok. It doesn't look like a piece broke off or anything.

Looks like new guides that are longer than stock. If those are the same as stock, it doesn't look good and I wouldn't take that much material off when porting.

I dont know what the CC of the runner is. Not that this means much, but I can see the rocker stud tips from inside the runner. It is supported at the other side of the guide. They look to be the same lenght as the stock guides. My 241's only have the beveled end of the guid exposed.

It looks like the guides were installed after the heads were ported.

I would be worried that the guide would rock in teh casting and cause oil leaks.

Thats what I was thinking... not enough material around it to prevent it from moving, esp. at high rpm.

I think you're probably right, or they have been replaced.

I agree, got to be new guides. I was hoping someone would reply with something like "Ah, that looks fine." No wise cracks.

the guides were installed after the cnc was done. There is nothing wrong with that as long as the guides were installed with the proper press fit

A customer of mine had them done. He is since doing a stroker and running a set of ET heads. I do not know what shop did the CNC work.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I think the stock valves were grey iron or steel. Bronze guides must be aftermarket.

It has aftermarket guides and vavles. I am just concerned about the amount of guide hanging in the port. Strenth of the guide is my concern.
