Default HS Rockers hitting 98 vavle covers

Well I was bolting on my valve covers tonight and noticed it was a pretty close fit with the Harland Sharp rockers. I torqued them down and then spun the engine over by hand and you could definitely hear the rockers nicking the covers. So i unbolted them and there were little marks where they hit. It wasn't hitting a lot just enough to make a mark on them. Can I just grind a little slot in the covers in the area they hit? I would like to stay away from dropping more money for valve cover spacers.

Bump. Has anyone took a grinder to the valve covers without any problems? Just as long as I don't grind a slot too far through. Do the rockers go up any higher at higher rpms than they do when just turning it over by hand?

hitting the valve covers or are they hitting the inside of the head-to-valve cover gasket surface?

thats where mine touched on some of the rockers.

i took a file to the inside edge (was really thin anyway) and clearanced them.

circled the area ii'm talking about:

Nah, my heads are already clearanced there, so that is fine. The top of the roller end taps the valve covers. I might just try grinding some slots in the covers and see what happens...
