Default Does GM balance each engine after assembly at the plant?

Or are the parts manufactured to work together without balancing?

I think it was on here one time I read where someone took their motor apart, had it balanced and gained a good bit of power.....30 or 40hp if memory serves me.

30 to 40 hp from balancing ?? Well that is some kind of gain.

Yes all LS1 cranks are balanced from the factory to whatever parts they have in that engine. When I have checked the balance on them after tear down they are very very good as well. The cranks always have numerous balancing drill marks but we wondered how close GM got and so we checked and they are very nice.

I am not saying all factory or older GM deals are balanced as well but the later model LSx stuff we have checked was always very nice.

It was either a motor that was rode hard an put away wet That was freshened, Or he did some other things to it too to get that much. Not calling you out but It would be my guess that there was a little bit more then just a plain balance.

I read on another forum that was posted by some one whom actuall work at a GM assembly plant that its all balanced withen a specified range and they pull things like rods from a bin and match them as close as possible to one another. The Do Not balance them like you would for a custom built engine.

i don't think the method really matters all that much; but depending on the range of tolerances, balancing is balancing. it would be in GM's best interest to balance their motors as close as possilbe because a poorly balanced motor would definatly cause lots of problems within the warranty window.
