I dunno if I would be too comfortable turning 7000RPM on stock rods, ARP bolts or not. "Budget LS1" and "7000RPM shifts" don't really go together for me.

If you do decide to go with a forged rod, consider a small journal. That way you can offset grind the crank to a 2.00" pin and get a few more cubes.

Why? I've never seen the rod itself fail on stock cubes and seen scores of LS1 cars turning 7k or more. Where did you see this happen enough to make you think it's a bad idea? People spin bone stock bottom ends to 7k all the time. If anything goes, it's the rod bolt - not the rod.

Hi Doug,

If your intent is to stay NA, no FI no Nitrous...

Why not the jump to a L92 BARE Block with its stock hypereutectic pistons and rings push @ 12/1 SCR and you can mount 99% of your engine's parts in it...with your LS6 cranckshaft...that is BIG money saving...

Result shoud be:

HYPER SQUARE TORQUY POWERFUL ENGINE ABLE TO REV 7300rpm EASY WITHOUT USING ANY EXCESS OF OIL...and it will stay for ever, mechanically easy on all the moving parts as if you rev it really high...

Christian

Hi Doug,

here is for you this L92 Bare Block and it is the best price I found...

http://www.sdparts.com/product/12584...5quotBore.aspx

All the advantages of the LS2, just an overall UPGRADE with more rigidity from the new design of the block, better cooling and a little more cube...and it is still Aluminium.
It will love compression and reving!!!!!

What do you think?

Why would you buy $700 RODS? When you can get a set of wiseco pistons for $535.00, and a set of h-beam rods for $325 w/2000 bolts?

PRICE SHOP MAN!!! Dont spend money when you dont need to! Just food for thought.

Thanks bro, I did price shop. I just threw that number out there. A lot of the extreme use rods a very pricey.

BTW I won't be refreshing this block. I have decided to step up to a 402 shortblock and reuse most of my parts.

Well for one, GM decided on a titanium rod for their LS7 to turn 7000 RPM. Not the powdered metal rods like in the previous engines. They are strong and all, but add a heavier forged piston and turn more RPM than the rod was designed for and it seems to be a flirt with disaster.

I personally wouldn't run a stock rod to turn that kinda RPM. What if you miss a shift? A nice 4340 steel rod with 3/8" rod bolts even, would have a better margin of safety in such an event. This guy says he runs his **** hard, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.
