Default 11:1 compression

How hard is this to keep from pinging? What would the differences be from say 10.8:1 to 11:1 compression for power and daily driving?

well, by looking at this by itself, i would definately not pull the heads, ect, just to up the CR by that much. should make a little diffrence, but not much. something like that would be convenient if you were swapping heads anyway, or just wanted to sound like your the coolest mechanic in the world that could tell everyone how your car has 11.0:1 Compression. OTOH, you could just lie. hehe..

now 10.8:1 to 13.5:1, there's about 20 hp, all said and done.

I m not just changing my compression, I am getting ported heads pretty soon and am trying to decide on the compression I want.

i have 11:1 and got a slight ping in the 1400-2200 rpms because there was a little to much timing on that area. Im running 30degree of timing at WOT with no KR, if anything i may get .8 off and on but thats false knock
its all in the tuning and you can always play with your timing tables

You don't need 30deg of timing. I am running 11.48 compression with 26 deg and no knock. On warmer days I mix in some 100 oct to be safe.

mine's roughly 11.2:1 w/ 26* total. no knock, and i dont have to mix in race gas for every day driving. regular ol 93 works great ;D

Why did some of you go so high on compression? Does it really help with power that much to take a chance of pinging? Also, with 11:1 would it be safe to spray a 75-100 shot of nitrous?

JT, you know I am loving my 10.8:1 JPR heads. I have never had any ping even in this heat.

BTW, what is "tuninng?" (am I reminding you of someone?)

Ok brooks, we will have to see how my new heads stack up against your JPR ones.....I decided on getting them decked .010 so what ever that compression is that is what I am getting...The guy says they flow 295@.550 With my .564 lift cam they should be pretty good heads, huh.

295 at 550 should run real good, but make sure thats what the flow bench says not just THE GUY. I believe compression will not make that much difference in hp unless there is a big jump like 10.-1 to 12.-1 but will boost your torque numbers a bit
