Default Need help with iron block buildup

I've got a 6.0 block, and I'm trying to decide what route to go as far as displacement. What are my options? I'm going to spray the hell out of this thing. I'm figuring on the Lunati stroker crank, but what about rods and pistons? I'd like to go as big as I can but I want it to be reliable. Thanks for any advice.

4.00" stroke
Then you can go:
standard = 402
.030 = 408
.060 = 414

4.125 stroke
standard = 415
.030 = 421
.060 = 427

4.250 stroke
standard = 427
.030 = 434
.060 = 440

You can also offset grind the crank and get more stroke, which equals more cubes, or you can sleeve the block with darton sleeves....many to choose from.

Possibilities are endless. When I ordered my pistons I ordered from Ross (mainly because they were fastest by 2 weeks) However you can get JE or Diamond (they are familiar with the LS1). Just make sure you order your pistons early. I had no idea the down time and wait for pistons

Good luck

If you are going to spray the block, only go 0.030" overbore. A 408 on the juice would run like a raped ape

For a blown application, I would not go over 4.000 stroke. One, because it's hard to find low compression pistons for a 4.125 crank and still run a 6.1__ rod. Two, you won't need more low end torque.

I'd look into going 4.030 bore x 4.000 stroke. Or just keep it stock stroke.

I'd look into going with 6.125 rods.

Most 6.0 blocks have thin cylinder walls. I had 2 sonic checked and .060 would of been dangerously thin.

Thanks for the advice! I think I'm going to go with the .030 over 4.125 stroke crank. This isn't going to be a blown motor, I'm selling the blower to pay for the shortblock. What length rods would I need for the 421? I'm going to stick with 10:1 pistons. I've got the LQ9 heads so that should put me around 9.7:1 but I'll have to calculate that. Is the 4.125 stroke crank more expensive than the 4.000"? I'm figuring $2,000 for the crank unless someone knows a cheaper place to get it. Again thanks for the advice.

Cranks are typically the same price.

If you go 4.125 + spray, plan to shift the car around 6000 and gear it accordingly.

Yeah I didn't want to shift past about 6500. I've already got the R1 cam I'm going to use. The heads are stage II LQ9 heads from Absolute Speed and LS6 intake. Again anyone know what length rods I should use? Any preferences on brand?

You should be talking to a piston company like Diamond to source your pistons and rods at the same time to make sure they will fit.

I wouldn't go with the 4.125 stroke with the bottle set up like you are saying. You will have real bad rod angles and with a lot of N2O that won't help you at all. I would go with a 4.00 stroke max with a custom billet 6.00 rod now you have room for a thicker compression height on your piston and you can move the top ring land down for a stronger piston and a thicker crown (top) of the piston and this will be alot stronger. The more stroke the more torque the more N2O the more torque so smaller stroke and more bottle. You may have to clearence the #8 piston for the reluctor wheel

Good points. I'm not looking to spray more than a 200 shot, and I plan on coating the top of the pistons. Yeah I'll definitely have to clearence #8 piston, there's no doubt about that. I might have to do some clearencing on the block too, but I'll have to wait until I get everything together to see. I'm going to keep the compression around 10:1. Thanks for the input.

You shouldn't have to do any clearancing on the block. I just built a iron 408 (4.030 bore x 4.00 stroke) and there was PLENTY of room between the block and the rods. Only the #8 piston needs to be clearanced.

Why? Does the stroker crank hit the block on #8?

No, the interferance is with the reluctor wheel at bottom dead center.
