98 LS1 Knocking......Conn. Rod Bearing??
There is an awful knocking coming from the bottom of my engine. It started out as a tick but now its gone to a knock.
Is it common to wear a connecting rod bearing in a 98 LS1? My mechanic never took off the base plate yet to see what is going on there......I hope its not too bad!

As soon as I started hearing the noise I brought her to the garage. I didn't notice any loss of oil pressure......never really looked. They never took off the base pan yet to see what kind of trouble I'm into. There is 170,000kms on the car. If only one connecting rod bearing is bad, is this a major job to fix? What kind of situation could I be looking at?

dont mean to hijack your thread but im having the same problem and im also thinking that its a rod bearing cause it does get louder when the rpm's go up.. what is the normal oil pressure level durring idle...also i found alum shavings in oil

Its probably a spun bearing these engines are bad about it , happened to 2 friends of mine and seems like everyday someone else on the board is having the same trouble. I think now that they are getting older and more miles it’s even getting more and more common.
