Default 2000 WS6 cutting out

Hello everyone,

I have a 2000 Trans Am WS6 and ever since I bought the car it has had a mild bogging problem and I was wondering if anyone had an idea what it could be?

The only mods on the car are a clear lid and LM 1 catback but it was completely stock when I got it and it still did it then so I don't think the mods have anything to do with it.

It will bog or cut out sometimes when I give it gas or am going up a large hill.
It doesn't happen if I stomp on it or if I am crusing along at one speed, it only happens under mild acceleration.

I have replaced plugs and plug wires and the fuel pump but it made no difference.

Also sometimes the car will ping when under load, I only run 93 octane but it still does it and has done this ever since I bought it. I think this is because it needs a knock sensor? Could a bad knock sensor also cause the bog??

The only code the car is throwing is that the passenger side cat is operating below threshold.

Thanks for any help!

Yes, I replaced the fuel filter and I also cleaned the maf but it made no difference.

I also did the seafoam treatment

if you have access to a scan tool see how many grams per sec the maf is pulling. mine never threw a code, but the car ran good, just no power at all. maf was only pulling half the grams it should and going full lean at wot. you could also have a coil taking a crap, once again if you can get a scan tool check out the misfire history that might put you in the right direction.

Yes that's what I'm thinking I need to get access to a scan tool.
I also have a 94 Z28 would the MAF on that be the same?

Similar thing happened to me when I descreened the 85MM SLP MAF. Ran perfectly until then. Car ran fine in town, but on highway it acted like it had water in the gas or something.....just a slight hesitation or stumble. Put the stock MAF on and no problem.
It took quite a while, but it finally did throw a "lean" code.

BTW - before the code, I was also able to see it on AutoTap.

Good luck.

may sounds stupid but run the car w/ the maf unplugged if the car runs the same way then thats what it is. Either that or try just tapping on the maf w/ a screwdriver handle if the car shudders idle you know the maf is bad

All above suggestions are good. Look around for a vaccuum leak as well.

Thanks for the help, I will check the MAF

Also I forgot to put in the original post that if I don't allow the car to warm up before I start driving the bogging is worse.

I tried tapping on the MAF with the car idling but it didn't make it shutter

Then I remembered when I bought my 94 Z28 it had a MAF on it with those plastic ends put on that don't have the screen or anything and I had taken it off and put a stock one on because I had problems with the car running rich and I was told the modified MAF could have been the problem, I still had the descreened maf laying around so I thought I might as well put it on and see what happens and now the car is running great so I guess the old MAF was dead!

Thanks for the help guys
