Ok I guess we need to discuss this more....

If the spring is coil binding by .180" something has to give. Where do you think it's going to go guys? Something simply has to give. The cam isn't going to give, the spring is smashed solid so it can't give, common sense tells you either the head or the rocker is probably going to fail.

I guess you Missouri guys can keep arguing this point, but really common sense hopefully will kick in at some point.

Guys the ports are absolutely not different. I have the castings here for inspection. While the floor of one port has a little bit more casting exposed because of core shift THIS DOES NOT MAKE IT A DIFFERENT PORT!

This is simply bashing thread now.

I'm sorry you guys had this failure, but bashing us because of installation incompetence is simply screwed up.

GUYS LET ME EXPLAIN THIS IN BOLD SO YOU CAN HOPEFULLY READ THIS & UNDERSTAND! I CC'd THE TWO PORTS IN QUESTION & THEY ARE THE SAME SIZE.

I guess I'll explain this the best way I can, the ports are the same size & the cnc machien doesn't change it's mind how it ports from one hole to another..

Sorry

the spring binding pressure has to go somewhere. it's a downward force upon the seat. the valve springs are sitting on the ridge of the seal. there is not a seat locator used to move said pressure away from the seal to the base. instead. the .600 lift of the cam is binding the coil onto the top of the seal.

harmonics are hell when something isn't done right. something has to give. it just happened to be the head itself that puked.

similar thing happened to someone in the lsj world. he smashed all 16 rockers to bits because someone at a well known company said it would be done without any issues.

when something doesn't look right. back up a second, have a beer and rethink plan of attack.

im not pointing fingers here. there is obviously some communication errors somewhere in the lines of this on either end. don't know.

yelling at people never gets **** solved.

p.s. why do those retainers look stock to me?

I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt in saying he bought the heads were never run. Even if they were run dosent matter in this case. Its not really a warranty issue. What i am wondering is why if he runs the car and from start up or even process of somuch as going through torque proceedures and just checking appropriate valve lash why he wouldnt find coil bind on that specific valve. Next we move forward estimated 400 miles and this happens. Do you believe even 300 miles of driving with a motor having this issue would have no symptoms and just suddenly it occurs. If it was a installation error it should have bound from the start and i would conclude this would have happen much sooner and been notice instead of later.

I don't see how letting this thread continue is going to prove anything else. If someone has a compelling reason (aside from letting it be a TSP bash-fest, or Stangklr lynching), PM me and maybe it'll be reopened.

FWIW, I've had my own weird inexplicable stuff happen. http://www.akmcables.com/camgear.jpg someone explain that to me. That happened after 4-5 hours of driving around town. I am currently running the same valvetrain from that motor (that cam, lifters, pushrods, rockers, springs, etc) in my new 383. Yet somehow the timing gear came apart. Sometimes you just go WTF and have to move on.
