Default prelube before startup

Got my engine all together and will not be able to start it up for another months or two. I go out and roll it over (using starter) every week or so. Today I pulled a valve cover to see if I get oil to the upper end and have nothing, about 3 trys for 10 seconds or so and no oil. I don't have a dash/gages set up yet so can't check oil pressure, but I don't get anything up top yet.

Got plenty of assembly lube on the bearings and lubed the cam. All pushrods were clean and clear before assembly. Will I typically see oil up in the heads from just rolling over using the starter?

The oil pump was filled up with oil during reassembly also, so it wasn't dry either, so should grab a prime easy.

Setup the gauges and crank with the ignition relay and fuel pump fuse pulled until you see some pressure.

Just curious, have you ever tried what you are recommending?

Crank for 30-40 seconds straight...It takes forever to get oil up top.

We normally do it before the injectors get plugged in, but isn't there a flood clear mode when you go WOT while you crank it?

Turn it over without spark plugs as well. It will turn quicker w/o compression.

I wouldn't keep turning it over without starting it. It won't get good oil pressure until it's running so your doing more damage than good.

Duane,

I took out all the plugs, and spun the engine over in 5 second increments 3 times and I got oil pressure. Was the filter full of oil before cranking it? My engine was completely dry, and I installed a fresh pump. I had 25PSI cranking it with the starter/no plugs.

Let us know how you make out. I've tried what the fellas are recommending and it's never resulted in any observed oil circulation. And FWIW, either way, you won't see anything on electronic gauges, those are all dead when the starter is cranked.
