Default Upgrade 224/228 to MS4?

Well as most already know I'm doing a full forged bottom end on my block in the next month. I'm going to bore to .007 do new pistons, rods, cam bearings etc. The car already has a 224/228 comp cam, 114 LSA at .588 lift and it runs really well. I guess I'm getting the need for speed and I'm curious as to what difference in power I'd look at in the MS4 cam. Would my 918 springs be sufficient and would I have to do different pushrods etc? I'm sure these questions are answered somewhere but I need to know some suggestions on power band difference.

Thanks!

thats a huge jump man from a 224/228 to an MS4!! i dont think those springs will be able to hold dude. look for something in the mid 230's size cam. but we have alot of guys on this site that can daily drive that MS4 though.

you'd need a dual spring of some sort, either comp 921s, prc, patriots etc. get the compression up to 11.5:1 or better and that ms4 will shine. would be a solid power gain at the expense of some low-end power. i know that your current cam would pwn the ms4 from idle to 3,500 rpm. you'd need a decent set of gears (410+) and some ***** to spin rpm to use the ms4, also.

I say stick with what you've got and have a reputable shop such as ETP or TEA port your LS6 heads. I'd also have them milled/use thinner gaskets that will also give you a nice bump in compression. No need to "fix" what isn't broken as far as the cam goes.

Besides, the added compression and ported heads paired with your current cam would be a very friendly combo that would pull very cleanly from idle to 6500 and possibly make 440+rwhp with gobs of torque.

I agree. Stick with the 224/228 as this will have more SOTP feeling then the MS4. MS4 may give you more top end, but may not be as quick off the line as the 224/228

Some great PP heads will wake up that cam too

The power band for the 224/228 is much better for the street. The MS4 is a better track cam where you spend a lot of time in the upper rpms. I say stick with the 224/228.
