Default 600/600 cam only?

Just bought a vigilante 3800 for the T/A. It has headers LS6 intake, cold air and 3 inch true duals dumped. Is a 600/600 too big without heads or gears. I dont want gears since mileage is only going to get worse and i dont want it wrapped out all the time. I dont think that heads are a realistic thing anytime soon since thats a whole extra 1200 easy. Know a kid with an A4 GM hot cam + a similar setup and its pretty weak. He pulls bolt on cars by maybe a car in the 1/4 so im thinking i need a little bigger. I want mid 12's on street tires and high 11's on DR's cam only LS6 intake and all. Realistic? Smaller? 589/589? Although its gonna be a DD there will be no hwy use. Driveability need only be medium.

Why are you judging cam size by lifts. That is just a part of the cam's potential.

I recommend this cam for your goals:

230/230, .612, .592 111+2 LSA

Custom grind Comp cam XFI/XE-R lobes

It has low 11s potential with the right mod combos (cam only)

How much et you think would be left on the table by shifting this cam at 6200-6300? If I remember correctly it started to fall off at 6500

You should be running high 11's with out a cam. I agree with Predator, his cam choice will do you good. Don't go with a cam that has to peak at 6800 rpm to make power either.

Are you smokin crack?? I don't know of a sinlge A4 car with his mods even outta the 12's without juice on top. There is NO way he should be in the 11's without a cam unless he is sprayin at least a 150 shot.

?? a bolt-on a4 car could easily go high 11s without a cam or spray. my 00 3600lb z28 went 12.25 @ 108 with a poor launch and 2-3 nonshift syndrome. the car went 7.69 @ 88 in the 1/8 a couple months before, i'm convinced that would've been my 11 sec pass had i been on a 1/4 mile track. i didn't make it soon enough before the trans gave up.

long tubes, drag radials, ls6 intake, tune.

I with you man i dont doubt an ls1 can do high 11s bolt on. My bolt on LT1 is trapping 110mph with no traction, a gfx kit, cage and 154k on the stock cam, heads, shortblock.

To go 12.2s @108 you would need an awesome 60ft. Period!!!

*Ahem* Put down your crack-pipe. There are PLENTY of A4's in the 11's bolt-ons only. Take a look at the SI list sometime, it might open your eyes.

I plan to be in the 10's on a 100 shot later in the year, without cracking a valve cover.

Ive seen wilwaxu go 11.5s with stock internals and an a4. He was within a few hundrehs of what my h/c m6 ran! It was humbling! You do have to have the right combo though!!!

Those stock internal cars also have a ton of work into them, such as a lot of weight reduction and most have pretty high dollar parts, built a3'sor a4's big stall, big gears, aftermarket rears. Slicks, ect. To run 11.5's SI you are going to need some serious work thats for sure. Most have tubular k members, full suspension, drag wheels. Well you get the point.

I have to kind of agree with big mike here, a SI street car with street tires, full weight, stock gears with just minor bolt ons will not have a chance at 11s

the car was spinning and went 1.71 60' - i wouldn't call that awesome...went a best of 1.60 on my 7.6 run. nothing special. stock susp. except for lcas, subframes, and no front swaybar. it's not some magical concoction, it was very simple parts on a very simple car. stock wheels, suspension, interior, longblock, etc etc. mid-high 11s should easily be attainable with an old standby 224 cam.
