Default classic 3rd to 2nd tonight

ran some cars tonight and you guessed it, went straight from 3rd gear to 2nd gear. Scan tool is registering tons of misfires on cyl 5 and 6. Multiple misfire code popped up. Drove car home staying under 2k rpms. M

My question is What all do I need to check to get her running like a champ again.
Pushrods?
roller rockers?
head damage?
What exactly should I look at?

Pretty much all of those things. Pull your heads, roll pushrods on a flat surface, check heads for damage (valves too), check valve guides, also check for piston head damage. You may want to pull your heads apart to check if the intake and exhaust valves are still straight and true. Of course that requires the tedious work of pulling all the valvesprings off

Check your cylinder sleeves for any scorching or gouges. They should feel smoothe to the touch around the whole sleeve. You will have to crank the motor by hand of course to check the all the cylinder sleeves. And like you said check your rockers and also your valvesprings for damage. Look for any metallic pieces laying around in the heads if you find some then you have to investigate to where it came from. If I missed anything I'll edit later but for the most part it looks like you got some splainin' to do ;-) . I've mis-shifted from 5th to 2nd so don't feel too bad. Good luck!

Maybe you need to have someone help you with this. Is there anyone there who can help you?

Intake and exhaust valves are IN the heads yes. They sit directly beneath the valvesprings. The valvesprings are held on the intake and exhaust valves with retainers and locks. You need a valvespring compressor tool to get the valvesprings off. It's a real PITA and if you get the tool from CSK or Napa make sure it's not the one that requires you to squeeze the handle to compress the spring. Or you will not be able to feel your hands tomorrow. If you're not sure on how to get the heads off there's a good writeup here: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=3

also, start getting into the habit of holding the gear **** with the palm of your hand facing the passenger side when going from 3rd to 4th. youll have less of a chance of pulling the shifter toward 2nd.

That and buy an aftermarket shifter like the pro 5.0 or similar. I dont think I've ever missed that shift w/ the new shifter on.

Cylinders 5 and 6 measured tons of misfires so i took out the pushrods in those two and they looked perfect. took a look down the valley of the motor and the valves appeared fine. rockers looked fine even when manually turning the motor. Some one suggested the coil packs on 5 and 6 could have burnt out. Any suggestions.

You need to do a compression test to find bent valves. My wife did the 3 to 2 shift in my car and bent all the intake valves.
