Here is a good kick in the nuts. I hate breaking in a motor. On the way home a GSXR 600 wanted to run bad. He kept slowing down and revving and crap. I think it was the one I smoked by three cars the other day with my 383 looking for some pay back. But of course, I can't do any thing. So he shakes his head at me and rolls off like I better know my place. I wanted to break that guys heart so bad. I probably would have put six cars on him this time with the new combo. But I will have another chance later. Bikes are every where around here.

im sure it would have been fine. **** most the guys i know break their **** in on the track

That is what I was thinking also. I haven't tuned WOT obviously and I didn't have my computer hooked up to check my AFR. I am running on my 383 tune with some minor changes for more cubes which is surprisingly close for just driving around. I just want to follow SDPC's instructions to the T. That way I have a recourse if any thing goes wrong. This is the first motor for one of my cars that I have not built. I am a little nervous about it. I am going pretty easy on it. I think the most I have gone is half throttle. It spun on a couple of those and went slightly over 4,000rpm. But other than that is just mundane boring driving. The funny thing is the wife HATES street racing almost to the point of divorce. Even she wanted me to spank that guy and teach him a lesson. He turned up my road so I will see him again.

Good stuff Pray, my build is on its way also. I just updated my thread the other day. Just waiting on a few more things and I can start putting the rest together. I am really anxious seeing you and ls2 with your builds already fired up.

Tell me about it. When LS2 had his stuff up and going I was waiting on parts. It was killing me. Keep us updated on your progress. Can you link your thread in here so I can check it out?

Here I was just happy to have the same setup as you before and now you go and do this. I just can't keep up After my ported fast 90/90 and YT's I hope to put down a tick over 500. Good luck with it and I'll be curious as to what she puts down.

I am still jelous of your power numbers on your 383. I am sure my lack of power was in my heads. I had them flowed and all was not well. With a 90/90 and YT's you will be over 500/465. Good luck with it.

Just thought I'd bring this thread back to the top. Wondering if you have any updates for us Pray? Here's where I'm at with my build so far:

Doug,
Probably be 3-4 weeks before I have the time to do the swap. Too busy with work so I can pay for all this stuff! Mark is also really slammed at the shop, so being able to get the 2 post lift free for 2-3 days isn't gonna happen right away!

Update. I got the correct length push rods now and the motor seems to rev easier but not as snappy or agressive. I can't really describe it. I went from about .080" preload to around .030". I have been finaly doing some WOT tuning now that the motor is broken in. It honestly doesn't feel any faster than the 383. But doing some 40mph or 2,500rpm to 102mph or 6,700 pulls, basicly third gear, the new motor is over half a second faster on average. 383 perfectly tuned to 13.00 took 6.225 sec on average to cover that range. The new motor is taking about 5.6 sec on average for the same range. The 383 runs were also done in 40* or so weather where as the 416 runs are being done in low 90# weather. So that is hurting me some as well.

I had to fatten up the VE table in OLSD by 20% at first but over compensated down low till about 5,000. I had to take about 3% or so out down there. I am getting it dialed in. I will have to go check the new times with the fuel closer to par. But over all the VE table goes from 100% at 2,500 rpm to 130% at around 5,000 then down to 124% at 6,700. It needed alot more fuel so I must be making more power. I also had to bump my Predicted ETC up 90% instead of the usual 50% to not get the Recuced Engine Mode when I go WOT.

What do you all think the .5-.7 tenths a second over the 40-102mph range will gain me in the quarter? I am pretty much done with OLSD tuning now and am going to move into the MAF tuning and see what I get at the track.

Stupid power. Just ridiculous. Wish I had the monsy for that. And yes, I meant to spell money, "monsy." It sounded kind of gangsta so I left it.

Glad to see that you are getting things sorted out. I kinda knew you would. Keep the updates coming, and congrats on picking up over 5 tenths on your 40-102 run. Should be good for at least the same in the 1/4 !!!

Are you all refering to my combo as being nasty or Jims? I am just getting a little confused if some of the comments are for me or him. Jims car will be sick with a solid roller for sure. He has me wanting one pretty bad now. I will shoot for 600rw with a solid roller.

Well I looked back at the runs I did on the way home today. Still rich on the hit and bottom end. The average for the six runs was right at 5.4 sec for 40-102 all in 3rd gear. So that gives me an average of .825 tenths over the 383 right now in the nasty heat. If translates into quarter mile then I will hit my 9.9@137 goal. On a couple of the runs I was getting some tire spin at different rpm's that was costing me some time. I probably need to clean my air filter as well. Thanks for the comments guys.

Brett,
Didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to keep it up top because these LS3 strokers are getting more popular every day and thought it would be a good way to share information with others considering the same set-ups.
I think its great than you are doing your own tuning,,,,,that's where I'm going to have to really pay attention! I'm not going to be able to do my own and have to rely on others to help me out with that. I can turn the wrenches and do the grunt work, but as far as tuning goes, I'm gonna need ALOT of help! A good friend has HPTuners and a license for my car, but he's
220 miles away and since we don't have a local dyno shop here, I'm going to have to get the car to CO Springs to get it on the rollers for WOT tuning. I do have an AEM wideband mounted in the car, so that'll help some.
BTW, the cam that's in the 416 isn't a solid roller, it's hydraulic,,,,I had enough of solid lifter motors back in the late 60's when I had an L88 in my '66 Chevelle SS. Thanks for the updates

No problem Jimbo. I didn't think you were hijacking the thread. I actually appreciate your info. So don't hesitate keeping it coming. I was just not sure who the comments were going to on the combos. I thought I read in your original post that you were going to run a solid. My mistake. With the advancements in valve train technology there is no reason except cost not to run one. As far as tuning you need to get your hands dirty, especially if there is no dyno around. The only way to really tune something like our combos is with a WB and a laptop on the street. If you buy EFI Live I can send you my tune to get you started. It is tuned in OLSD and I am tuning the MAF right now for Closed Loop. So both tables will be right on.

Thanks Blu. We will see what it runs when I have every thing dialed in. I am messing with push rod length and MAF tuning right now.

Hey Pray, my ls3 stroker is the one thats going to be sollid roller, lol.

On a side note Jim, are you running a FAST or ls6 intake manifold? If so, I wouldnt keep those GM valley cover bolts on your motor, less you want to crack the bottom of it.

BTW, I updated my thread last night after doing a few minor things.
