Default removing oil pan - need help please

I need to replace my oil pan tomorrow. Quick responses would be quite helpful.

Once the car is jacked up, what else do I need to remove to replace the oil pan? I know the k-member will have to be moved, then don't I have to support the engine in some way?

I've searched for a how to on this, but haven't seen anything. Someone please help.

I removed the pan bolts for my new oil pump but did not remove the pan from the car. Is you car an F-body or C5 - the procedure is different I think?

This topic has been covered many times, here, however

Search under "replacing connecting rod bolts" as some replace these bolts while the engine is in the car which requires you to remove the pan. A real PITA, I assume. If you have to jack up the engine be real careful as the pan and other components are integral - not like Gen 2 engines.

I haven't done it, but when I asked this question, I was told to do it by unbolting the engine from it's mounts, then raising it with a jack until it hits. At this point you can remove the pan without removing the K-member.

My car is a fbody. I'll look that up, thanks Robert.

Cal, how would I make sure the engine didn't fall anywhere, will it really balance on the jack if I do it that way?

Anyone else please?

me and a friend removed one and how we did it was:

1. trans out (clutch install)
2. losened oil pan bolts
3. removed engine mount bolts
4. raised engine high enough to clear the oil pickup and then slid the pan right out

when we jacked the engine we put the jack under the pan and one up front to raise it then put some supports under the engine by the mounts to support the engine and then got the jack out of the way. worked well for us.
We had it supported by a jack in the front and 2 piecs of wood on eaither side. wish we would have had some pictures.

you can rent a chery picker, or buy a come-along...ah ratcheting cable set. Lift the engine, from the top and work underneath. I might have to do this as well, just for shiz and giggles.
