Default Valvetrain noise

I would like to know if the valvetrain noise I have is typical because I never had it stock to know the difference. It is an iron block 403 stroker with L92 heads & intake, SDPC behive springs, and a 22x/22x .581/.588 lift cam. Here is a clip:

Did it just start doing it all of a sudden or has it always been like that?

What length are the pushrods? What did you set lifter preload at?

Unmilled heads, stock length pushrods, torqued to 22ft lbs. It's done this since I built the motor and installed it in my 96 Impala. This is why I am asking is this valvetrain noise typical in these LSx motors.

some is, but that's a little more chatter than I would expect. borrow a pushrod length checker and see what you need. If the base circle on the cam is smaller, and you're running stock compression height, you would need a slightly longer pushrod, like a 7.425

I hate the sewing machine sounds some engines make
It does sound as if the valve train could use a little more lifter preload. Perhpas a little longer pushrod would do the trick. I like to see 2 turns of preload from loose lash on the rocker arms. A little longer pushrod will help quiet down the noise.

Good luck,

Richard

I run the Caddy lifters and they are pretty quiet with the proper setup.

Pushrods have less than 6 miles on them. They are chromoly 1 piece PRW.
