3.905 bore ring gap?
3.905 bore ring gap? Ok, here's a pretty technical question for all you guys running 3.905" bore with -2cc forged diamond pistons. Now according to the Total Seal manual it says that SAE recommended ring gap is .012"-.022" on a stock NA block. However, if I decide to go nitrous over 150 HP then I should calculate the current bore (3.905") X (.008") for the top ring and current bore (3.905") X (.0055") for the second ring. This is equivalent to .031" for the top ring and .021" for the second ring. Is that correct? I just wanted to make sure because that seems like ALOT of gap for a piston ring. Is anyone running any less or any more with a similar setup? I just want to make sure I do this right BEFORE I over gap the rings.

My diamond pistons with their pro select rings, I'm running .028 top and .032 2nd ring. I'm running 18psi of boost. I thought all LS1's ran a larger 2nd ring gap?? Maybe the total seals are different...
So we got varying piston ring gaps between different manufacturers...The Total Seals I have are file to fit rings and I'm not sure about the second ring having to be bigger than the top ring 
According to their spec sheet though the top ring is bigger than the second ring in blown nitro, blown alcohol, blown gas, nitrous over 150 hp, nitrous under 150 hp and street/strip applications. Maybe it would be wise to call Total Seal tomorrow morning lol...

Awesome information, thank you! I will probably end up around .024 top and .026 second. I don't plan much more than a 150 or 200 shot of nitrous on the motor but the idea that the secondary is supposed to be bigger is great to know ahead of time
