Default Heads and Intake OR nitrous??? Disappointed @ track

Well I just got back from the track today and I didnt do as good as I thought.

My setup is a 98 T/A A4 3600 stall and predator cam only.

230/230 .612/.592 111+2 LSA XFI/XER

Otherwise ALL stock

I was running against other ws6s with bolt ons only in an 1/8 mile.
I was getting these guys out of the hole but they were all running me down!!

Is this all because of my stock tune? I guess I REALLY need to get a tune.

I have headers in the mail arriving anyday now
maybe I should get an air lid too?

I know I'm leaving some on the table with stocks heads and intake so that leads me to my question. Would I be better off looking into a 100 dry shot or do maybe prc stg 2.5 heads and a ls6 intake or fast setup?

Seems to me best bang for the buck would be the nitrous setup vs the H/I setup.

All input and suggestions are much appreciated!

Thanks!
Geno

Heads and Fast intake & long tubs headers ,373 gear with a custom tune will make a huge difference in your car from night to day.

Thanks for the response Randy.

But wouldn't a 100 shot make a night and day difference at the track too ?? ....at literally Half the price or better even

Put on the LTs and tune it. You should be happier after that. If you had all the supporting mods and were still disappointed, then yea, I'd look at nitrous. You have a cam and basically no bolt ons, get the bolt ons before writing it off as disappointing IMO. Good luck.

You need all the supporting mods and a tune. That cam needs alot higher shift points than stock..

The car shouldn't even be cammed if you don't have all the supporting mods. The LS1 intake is hurting you as well. And you shouldn't be running it at the track without a tune. That being said taking care of those three things will make a big difference.

so let me get this straight you have a stock car with a healthy cam and stall but no other supporting mods???

and your dissapointed why????

did you upgrade any of the rest of the valvetrain or just stick the cam in???

your heads will be fine ...put on the long tubes get a good intake ls6 can be got for under 400 bucks a ported throttle body and get a tune even a mail order is way better than stock....out of curiosity what were the time and trap speed ???

That cam has a good amount of overlap and needs headers, preferably without cats.
My advice first is to put on the headers and get it tuned professionaly. At least get it tuned first before you ruin your motor.

I can't believe you actualy race or hope for anything but disaster before a tune.

Ok guys I see the overall concensus is get a tune. That will be my very next step soon as I get these headers installed. The car just "seemed" to run so good after the install, I neglected a tune. I really don't want to have to turn around and need to get a tune a second time all over again.
So while I'm doing the headers I was asking which of the 2 would be better choice bang for buck?

Do I even need heads or just go with an ls6 intake as mentioned above? I've read the 98 heads flow pretty badly.

OR look in to a small shot of nitrous?

There were no times. the drags was held at a local airport, by flashlightdrags.com , just a 1/8 mile

Wow....Talk about backwards modding!

You need to have Longtubes, lid and ls6 intake before you even put a cam in. Since you already have the cam you need to buy the bolt ons and get a tune.

You guys are acting like a bunch of ninnies I think he has acknowledged the point that he needs bolt ons he wants to know which he should do first though so ... Get your bolt ons boy no nitrous till you have every supporting mod that cam can benifit from at stock cubes!

Longtubes and tune first, after that I would look into some PRC 2.5 5.3s or stage 1.0 LS6s or some patriot LS6s, all great bang for the buck, and pick up a used LS6 intake and ported TB and try to tr tune. Most tuners are willing to give you a nice break on a retune if you had them tune it before.

IMO save the nitrous.Aftre you get all of this stuff and are looking for more...then look into a small N20 shot.
