would it be worth it or no? also would it be better to change the stock sprins, retainers, pushrods, and rocker arms?

what im trying to do is get a decent amount and as much of stock that i can without spending to much money. Im also throwing a cam in that is going to be very mild but also add 60 hp over stock with the stock heads.

I went through the same thing your talking about. The stock 243's will probably get you 15to 20 horses.I was going to use a 224 cam with those same heads.I bought a set used for$375.00 with 25k miles. My mechanic said I would get 50 rwhp if I was lucky. He said spend the money on better ported heads if you are going to all the trouble. You don't want to put all the time into it ,than later not be happy. Then while their in it you should go ls2 timing chain, melling 295 or,better push rods.Might as well do it once. That's what I did.I collected all the parts and took my time, then took the car in to get it done.
I'm glad I did the footwork and listened to my mechanic, and people on this site.I ended up with a 224/224 561/561 @115 and some 317 heads that were ported, milled,+ bigger valves etc that someone put a **** load of money in that I scored without springs for $650.00.You can lots of deals if you budget wiseley and take your time.My car pulls like a beast and I am happy I waited. Also fast #36 injectors. When you do this stuff you open a can of worms.Think about your goals and don't be too much in a hurry. My car is 410 at the wheels by the way.Their are a lot of really good heads out their .Patriot.prc lots of others.Spend the money and get better heads IMO.YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.I saw your other post about cam/heads.

just rework your 241 heads, they will out flow a set of stock 243 heads for the same amount of cash.

For the aggrivation of a Heads swap, might as well throw some reworked heads in there. With LSX guys, people get drunk on cam only increases but heads are really good, even be LS1 castings.

Well, it's not the most popular choice for everyone, and not everyone will net the same results, but my car seemed to like the stock set of 243's I threw on there. I've got a TR224 cam with full bolt-ons plus the 243's. Before the heads, my car put down 376/376 IIRC, then after the heads she put down 411/401. That's through an SLP D/D, stock 10-spoke wheels (didn't put on the Bogarts) and without optimizing the compression ratio (used stock MLS head gaskets). All said and done, I ended up with a very streetable car that makes a decent amount of power, plus I didn't break the bank to do it. To the OP, good luck with your decision.

if you can get the stock ls6 heads for CHEAP, and you have no problem tearing your motor apart for a while and do the work your self.. sure, its worth it. the swap is straight foward, just time consuming. Obviously a ported head would out perform a stock head and if you've got the cash, there shuoldn't be a question. But in my case, i picked up used 243s, and was already planning on swapping a 90/90 so i took the heads off and replaced my lifters and upgraded to dual springs..
Thanks for the comment blanco

$431 and reserve isn't met. Not worth it IMO. You can do better on here from a private sale. I have those z06 springs for $50, their slightly used from a take off set of heads I have here.

$65 shipping is a decent rate, but if they go for 500 or 600 its not a good deal when you consider the new TSP lS6 heads are $9xx.

You shouldnt re-use those tty bolts either, and lets face it a new set of PAC 1218's is only $155 as well so honestly thats a lot of money already at $431 for a those heads.

IF you were looking for budget all the way I'd go with the TSP new 225 runner LS6 and a custom cam. You were wanting mild power and not having it be top end only so I would go with something in the 220-222 duration range. It will have excellent street manors and be in the rwhp range that you wanted. You could go with the venerable tr224 as well but it might br a litte more cam than your looking for from your previous post and 400rwhp. Cam only a tr224 could hit 390, mine was 380, put some heads on top of that and your over the mark no sweat. The tr224 starts kicking around 1800-2000 rpms and so I think a little milder is what you want..
