Default lq4 power loss

Im on a really tight budget first off. If I was to run an lq4, a trex cam, and stock 853's, how much power would I be sacrificing because of the compression? How cheap could I find some lq9 pistons and would they work w/ the lq4 rods? Thanks

ive read that 1 point in compression is worth 2%, so at this power level you really arent losing much

the cubes will make up for the loss in compression. i would expect the t-rex to be a little better suited to a 6.0, as it sits in the 346 you need like 7k+ rpm shiftpoints to utilize its powerband.

so you think that would be a descent budget combo- lq4, trex, and stock 853's? Which head gaskets should I use and what compression should I yield? What kind of whp do you think w/ ls6, ud pulley, 4.10's and bolt ons?

I want to do this so when I do have the money Ill have the block to make a 408 and can run some ported l92s and vic jr intake! But right now Im broke. Thanks

Also, what years has the short crank so it will work w/ my manual?

what does that mean? I thought you only had to change the crank pully so the belts would line up?

What exactly do I need to make this swap work? Any Harness adaptors, etc? Thanks for all the help guys!

Don't quote me, but I think you could get away milling the heads .15", the stock LQ4 pistons are dished, so I don't think you will have any ptv clearance issues. But you should be checking all your clearances anyway right?

Trex cam. And soul tkr how did you get 364 c.i.? I thought it was 370? I already have the 853's so ill prob run those, besides I thought you had to use a bigger exhaust valve w/ 5.3's? So if I run 853's milled .15 which gaskets should I go w/ and what cr would that put me at? Thanks

LQ4 is 364 and LQ9 is 370 I think. Anywho I have pretty much the same setup that you are talking about building. When I got my valve job my heads where milled a little but I have a LQ4 bottom end with Trex and 853's, LS6 intake, and bolts ons. I'm getting my car dyno'd Sunday I will let you know what kind of power I made. Shooting for 450 but I'm afraid the heads are going to drag me down. Oh and you won't have to use any other wiring harness for the LQ4 all you will need to do is put the 5.7 crank pulley on it.

Great info. I will be using the march pulley that was on my ls1. How much where your heads milled and what gasket/ thickness did you use? Thanks and keep me posted on how it turns out.

You can use 5.3's no problem. The stock CR of the LQ4 is 9.41:1. With milled heads (and possibly running a cometic gasket) I would shoot for a CR of ~11:1 for a NA build on pump gas.

I wont be running 5.3's though. would all of that be about the same if I milled 853's .015" and ran .040" cometics? Thanks

My 241's are milled .022 and with my lq4 i am around 10.4 /1 . I am running an f14 cam and sounds tamer then my f13 with the stock cubes.

Runs very strong though. Have not dynoed yet but it pulls harder then my 346 that made 441rwhp/410 tq.

lq4 and lq9's are 364 c.i. to get 370 c.i you bore the block .030 over.
