Default Leakdown test question?

I have Patriot Stage 2 CNC ported heads and the threaded rocker stud holes go clear through the intake ports. When I perform my leakdown test, it would be a good idea to plug these holes as to get get proper readings on the leakdown...correct? Any one have to do this to get an accurate result?

Thanks,

Bill

I would think that if you're doing a cylinder leakdown test no. The leak from that bolt hole is on the other side of the valve so it shouldn't matter.

Default leakdown

I did the leakdown on all 8 cylinders and air is definitely escaping to the atmosphere through the rocker holes on the intake ports. I'm pretty sure it would be a good idea to plug them temporarily while doing the leakdown. It should give me more accurate results.

Wouldn't it have to leak by the valves first for those holes to matter? Even if you seal those holes the front of the intake isn't sealed so why wouldn't it still bleed off?? Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong, but I really don't see how they'd matter unless you're leaking past the valve.

No affect on the leakdown test at all because the hole goes into the runner which is on the other side of the valve.

Yep...You guys are right...I didn't do the mental math before I spoke. I however did notice a noticable amount of air rushing through the rocker bolt holes...which tells me I have significant leakage past the valves... which isn't good at all. If my valves, valve seals, guides, etc were in perfect shape, I wouldn't be hearing this at all. I am also getting some significant air leakage coming through my exhaust pipes...which tells me either my rings are worn or hurt...and/or my exhaust valves are leaking significantly. I am getting a lot of air leakage through my throttle body & my exhaust pipes. I'm still holding out some hope my bottom end is still intact and hoping that my heads are causing all of my problems. Shitty exhaust valve guides might give one the impression your rings are hurt when in fact they might not be.

Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

If it's leaking out your pipes it's not leaking past the rings. I would think you're lookin at head issues.

exactly, pull your oil fill cap off and listen there, that will tell you if its leaking past the rings. also, pull your radiator cap off and look for bubbles, that will tell you if your headgaskets are leaking.

Default leaks

It definitely looks like heads and or head gasket issues. I hope the bottom end is ok. I'll find out more tommorrow. Might be time for a pair of AFR's.
