Default Marginal gains with FAST 90/ NW tb

Previously made on a mustang dyno - CORRECTED
406 hp 373 tq with ls6 intake/ported tb

installed 90mm FAST intake/nick williams tb and got:
413 hp and 367 tq after tuning on same dyno as before

these are peak numbers, but under the curve the new numbers are down between 6-10 hp and 8-12 lb-ft up until 5000 rpm where the FAST setup finally eclipses the LS6 setup. I'll post a dyno graph overlay later.

My tuner told me he has seen this time and time again with FAST intakes and stock cubic inch motors. So why does everyone else on this site seem to gain 15-20 hp and 10-15 lb-ft from this swap? I just dont get it.

****SEE POST 12 FOR DYNO GRAPH****

I assume you put these on the car in ur sig with the cam and heads? If so, damn, looks like I wont be shellin out the extra money for the fast/nw. Thats very marginal gains for the price difference. Especally if your losing power at the low end. Thanks for comparing the 2.

after reading the article on gearchatter.com I wont be buying a fast intake, definately not worth the difference in price for my setup.

www.gearchatter.com/viewtopic10974.php

hopefully that link works, my computer wouldn't let me copy paste the link at this time looks like I need to restart it, I will try again here in a bit, but its the ls6 vs fast test on their website.

I know what you mean. I did H/C & intake all at once but I thought I would make numbers in sig on an LS6 IM I had and expected the FAST to put me past 430 Hopefully it will pay off when the 383 or 402 goes in

It worked well for me, I was 480rwhp 460tq with Patriot Heads, Mega Death Cam, Ported Fast 90/90, and all other boltons. Probably could have made 500rwhp with MAMO AFRs. It is all for not now as I am twin turboed.

from what i have read unless your in the upper 400s HP wise, the LS6 should be enough for the car. And what you just stated proved the point. People with the higher HP cars are seeing bigger gains cause their car needs that extra air coming in, when the lower hp cars wont see much gain cause well we dont need that extra air lol. Plus if your heads cant flowmore than a ls6 intake there is no point in upgrading.

The fast intake may outflow the PRC heads.

Was your intake ported or out of the box?

FYI, a ported 92/92mm combo should run $1475.

Here's the dyno overlay graph. As you can see i lost power everywhere below 5,000 rpm and only gained slightly on the top end.

Its unported.

what kills me is all that midrange torque i gave up. I'm only keeping the intake because i know i'll be throwing in a 383 or 402 in the future.

The people that gain 15-20 rwhp have the intakes ported by a reputable shop.

One thing to check is the alignment of the FAST ports and the intake ports of the heads. Depending on the head porting (since the FAST is not ported), there may be a wall presented to the incoming air flow that would account for what you are seeing. I wouldn't immediately point to the FAST as the issue, there may be other causes and until you investigate you won't understand what happened. I would dig a little deeper.

That might be worth looking at.

But I guess the only true way to see if it helped or hurt is to get back to the track. I realize it was the same dyno but a different day, different weather. Even though the correction factor should take care of that, I will remain hopeful unless track results prove different.

seems odd to me you'd only gain that amount with heads and cam

There's a reason I never bought one of these myself. Unless you have forced induction or the engine is stroked I just don't see the point in throwing all that money for small gains at the top end while giving up everything else.

What was your HP with all the mods but without the FAST? Otherwise how do you know it worked for you?!

Just out of curiosity what Mass Airflow Sensor are you running on the car?
