Sorry, should have been clearer! Dial indicator is the way to go, not dial caliper

We use a depth micrometer. It is shaped like a "T". It has a flat bar, with a plunging micrometer in the middle. In this case, you set the bar on the top of the piston, somewhere near the wristpin centerline if possible, and run the mic down until it just touches the deck surface. It takes some feel to get used to it, and a few measurements around the piston to get an accurate measurement. "There is always a proper tool for the job" as they say.

Found my problem... I was sent the wrong rods. Glad I caught this before anything else happened.

Well at least you found it!!! That motor would have been broken almost instantly if you fired it up like that, that would have sucked.

Yeah, that could've ended up pretty bad. Stroker rods on a stock crank...I don't want to see what happens on that setup lol!

Hey Dusty good to see you carousing the forums! I hope you are making more headway with your motor than I am with mine Anyhow, the gaskets I got are the new MLS LS6 gaskets part # 12498544 which supposedly has a crush thicknes of .054". So when I connect up the new rods the pistons "should" come out .011" which gives me a quench of .043" or somewhere in that range anyhow.

Also, I have to get the crank and everything rebalanced with the new rods and have the pistons swapped over to the new rods and I'd have to say that Matt at Texas Speed is kind enough to cover the labor charges for getting the crank and everything rebalanced at Hughes Machine out in Fallon, NV! I'm glad I ordered everything from TSP as they have certainly stood behind their word on everything. Thanks again!

Thanks for your patience! Its always nice when a customer is easy to work with and understands that mistakes can happen, and doesn't just freak out and start yelling Let me know if I can help with anything in the future!
