detonation problems

detonation problems I picked up a new used 02 Z06. The car was getting detonation bone stock. I went through a couple of tanks of gas to make sure it was not the gas. So I had the car re-flashed with the stock tune just to make sure the previous owner did not have a hypertech or comparable tune on there. That did not work. Now the part that is really anoying me. I had the car custom tuned on the dyno by Rick at Synergy. Rick knows his stuff. Car worked great for about an hour after the tune. I stopped to eat on my way to the track. Car started to detonate again. So at the track I add 100 octane. Detonation went away for one run. Then next run I would just barley get a little. Next run gone and so on. 
Any ideas. Rick thinks maybe oil getting in the mix some how. I did a compression test and all numbers where 195-190. Anyone have any other ideas of what may be happening.

Try cleaning the MAF - when the elements get dirty, they can cause these problems due to incorrectly reported airflow.
Also, check your fuel pressure - low pressure could cause a lean condition.

Agree with Bird, start with the simple things like MAF, FP, and depending on if the exhaust is stock and how many miles are on the car the catalytic converters may be somewhat clogged causing the detonation. Just start eliminating the easy stuff first is always my plan of action.
Definately try a different MAF if you can get access to one. I just had a similiar situation with my Z28 and I bought a used MAF here on the boards for $50 and I have not had any detonation since.

Well I found my problem. I was getting a large amount of oil from the PCV hose. I capped the throttle body and put a breather on the valley. No more detonation. So now I will be buying a catch can. Seems like a horrible design from the factory.
Glad to hear you found your problem! Go with the norris catch can! It's AMAZING! Mike also shipped my can out the next day i had it the following. The can also comes in red anodized which would go great with your fuel rail covers. Mikes number is 407-616-2518. I have it installed on my 68-LS1. Extremely high quality and it was only like $80.
