1961 LS1 Powered VW Bug making knocking sound, need advice
My 61 Bug has a 99 LS1 with upwards of 80k miles, and has developed a knocking similar to the dreaded piston slap, but it does not go away after a few minutes. It appears to be getting worse and I fear a fod bearing has gone south. My oil pressure has shown no decrease, but is only about 30 psi around 1100 rpm, as it has been for the 7000 miles I have put on it.
You can imagine it is a bitch to remove the motor, so when I do I intend to redo the short block, so I do not have to do it again just for fun if all is well with the crank.
Long story short, I want to go through the short block and want to put in good parts, oil pump, pistons if required and facctory quality gaskets or better. What advice is out there on good parts and limits on machining. Thanks in advance, bill

I will try to drop by one day, I moved to a place in Claxton, so I haven't been that way in a while. I really want to get to know some of the folks around here that are smart on LS engines. Thanks for the Link
