I've done them in 3-4 hours depending on if you are replacing valve springs. DON'T rush to make record time. Take your time and double check every thing you touch. If you start in the morning you should have no problem getting it done the same day.

10 days. I took my time.

I probably could have done it in 5 days if I hustled.

I will have to agree with socmguy. When I first did my car a friend and I did a cam, valve springs, pushrods, spring seats, seal, headers and duals in about 11 hours. Talk to someone who has done them before.

Thanks all. I will be replacing the springs. Curious about breaking the ac connections, droppoing the oil pan?? Any special tools besides the balancer tool.

You shouldn't have to disconnect the ac.

Not that it's important, but wanted to add that the reason it took me so long on the cam swap was because it was my first time, and I was learning as I went along, plus I ran into trouble with one of the rods that holds up the lifters. I ended up using pen magnets but still had a tough time getting the cam home. The valve springs took me a whole day, there's 16 of 'em (as you know) and it takes some time. Lastly, I was totally perfectionist about everything, and that adds up to more time. Oh yeah, I wrestled with the radiator, for awhile, taking breaks between the bouts of frustration.

If I was to do it again, probably a couple 8 hour days. 3 hours is insane to me. I don't doubt it, but I can't see how it's possible either.

drop the motor out. You dont need a picker or any special tools. I drop my motor anytime i do plugs, exhaust, trans or any work where you need to get into those tight spaces. After a coolant flush and brake bleed your golden.

I would think that that would take a lot more time.

If you're doing the springs you should get the Crane/Vinci tool or you'll wish you had afterwards. It's a BIG time saver. If this is just a cam swap why drop the pan? That adds a lot of extra work especially if you're trying to reduce downtime. Unless your installing a new timing set or oil pump leave the pan alone. Be SURE to replace the crank snout seal in the timing cover. Cheap insurance.

The time that it takes to do a cam swap is decided in the valve springs. It took us two days to get all 16 of my springs on with the tool from THUNDER. And it is useless now as it is made of shitty *** aluminum and stripped out on the very last spring. Good timing though at least :-). Get the crane tool, a pulley puller, and make a pulley installer or buy one from on here and you should get it done in a day. The tool from thunder requires two people and a cheater bar from hell to get the springs on.

Wow, it took me 8 hours for just valve springs with all the installed height measurements and shim calculations that needs to be done to ensure a correct setup. Then rocker geometry (wipe pattern) took a few more hours because check springs needed to be installed and I verified on both intake and exhaust.

The cam in a Vette requires more stuff to come out though as compared to the f-body.
