My girlfriends dad works on forklifts and he said they use it to pull her brothers engine in his race car(86 Iroc). Does anyone see a problem with using a forklit to act as a engine hoist?

An actual engine hoist is probably going to give you more control and is going to be more delicate in the process. If you do use a forklift just make sure either you or someone has tender fingers on the hydraulic controls. Here's another pic for you.

It would be easier with an engine hoist, and if you have access to a load leveler it will be even better so that you can tilt the engine once it's pulled forward and come out more smoothly

Can someone be a little more specific as to the criteria of a good engine hoist? I have access to two and I do not know what to look for.

Are there any brands/styles that are better than others, in terms of flexability and manuverability?

Are there any specific characteristics of a "good" one versus a "not so good" one?

Probably a stupid question but I figured I'd ask.

Like Scoggin Dickey said, we were able to pull the one out of his camaro thru the top with the tranny still on it.......

Now reading what u said about having a forklift and using that, i would go from underneath.....use the forklift to lift the body and drop the motor on the k-member and roll it out on the front tires....That would be the easiest way with a forklift.

same here, have always removed from top with t56 or 60e
with hood on, even with stock manifolds.and accesories
i dont figure to remove from the bottom its more work imo
unless there is a tubular kmember going back in, i dont see the point.
