Help pick a cam for my 5.3L Iroc!
Hey Everyone.
Im not sure what cam i should be looking into, so im looking for some help. Id love to put an MS3 or something in but it would push my powerband wayy up.
I looked on the truck forums, but cam selection there is a little different as a truck is twice the weight of my camaro an my goals for my motor are different from theres.
Anywho.
Its a 2003 5.3L, its nearly new, and its in my 89 iroc.
Here's my goals for the engine:
Lumpy idle, aiming for 375flywheel hp, 6000 - 6400 peak, good tq. production etc.
Here's my setup:
3200lb Chassis
1 5/8" LT Headers through to magnaflow catback (The headers will be changed to 1 3/4" Stainless over the winter)
4L60e Auto (Swapping to T56 winter 2008/9)
3.73 Rear gears
LS6 intake
CAI
I know that LS1HP Book got 356hp @ FW with an LS6 Cam, CAI, Catback & a bit of ignition advance. Im hoping to get beyond that with a bigger cam, headers, better intake & a full dyno tune.
All input is greatly appreciated!

there's a world of difference between the ls6 cam and the ms3!!!
i would go for the 224 cam, mild enough for your smaller displacement engine, but should still make your goals easy.
i mean ****...375flywheel is like 320hp at the wheels. should be able to do that with boltons.

also a ls6 intake would do good, I dont think a 5.3 needs a fast as most 5.7's dont need the fast.
Get a ported throttle body but keep the ls6 intake.
if you get ported heads keep in mind you have a small bore and dont go big on the valves. Not sure how much bigger that bore will take but stock is 1.89 on the intake. i would stick with them and just get a vavle job and port work done.
