Default crazy voltage meter!!! HELP!!!

my voltage meter has been going insane lately... it just keeps bouncing back and forth.it does it the most when i first start the car, after about 3 minutes of idleing, it kinda slows down but it never really stays put? it also makes all my lights inside the car strobe (lightly). its even gotten my headlights to "blink" a couple of times. anyone have any idea what this problem might be? im not sure which forum to use either because i dont know what the problem is..any info is appreciated, thanx

Have you had any recent work done to the car? You could check the exciter wire coming from the top of the altenator. Could be a loose battery cable. Something bad in the altenator?
