99' Z28 140k mi.
I use to run Mobile 5/30 but switched to Synthetic 15/40 Rotella T at about 60k. Because of my desert runs from LA to LV Mobile 1's thinning concerned me, I deal with alot of truckers and they swear by Rotella T and Rotella quieted my valve train. I figure I can give up a few HP in my daily driver for what I feel is better protection. Used the Royal purple only in my diff.(Gleasen) and it howled like crazy Mobile or Amsoil work best for me.
Best advice though, change what ever oil you run every 5k max.1981 Toyota traded @ 181k, 1991 5.0 GT traded @ 120k , 1989 Nissan traded @ 210k, 1998 Nissan traded @ 170k.

I've run Mobile-1 in all my cars for the past 4 years w/ no probs. In the Camaro I run 10W-30. Had the car apart to the shortblock a month ago. 35K miles....looked brand new, save the carbon buildup on my pistons

BTW, Mobile1 5W-30 seems to give more valvetrain noise in my car, thus my use of 10W-30.

When I was a tech at hummer I saw a 6.0 come in and the customer always changed his oil with royal purple and at 55k the cam lobes had already worn flat. I think there is a reason why GM engineers recommend mobil 1 on all the newer high performance engines.

May be you don't run the engine for enough time to get the oil to the operational temp. I mean mostly.

I love these oil debates. Both me and my dad have used M1 in all of our cars and have never once had any engine problems. We have an EVO, WRX, Cobra, and a few vettes. I have been very happy with M1. When I had to take apart my last motor (27k) due to hydrolock. The insides looked brand spankin new. Granted the motor wasn't high milleage but it is a 2000 so there has been plenty time for stuff to sludge. I will be using M1 till I die

I too have run Mobile one for many thousands of miles and have never had a problem. The engines I've torn down all looked good, no abnormal wear and no sludge at all. Only thing that bothers me that its so expensive and keeps going up.

or it is just stuck to the bottom of the pan. correct me if im wrong but arent the pistons and block aluminum? and if you have meal shavings coming from the bearings on the crank you have a bigger prob than oil

The Mobil 1 5w-30 is the worst oil they make. Never use that. It's very thin mass produced oil like you stated and is extremely inferior to their 10w-30/40 weight blend's. Don't think for a second that the M1 10w-30 has even slightly the same protection abilities as the 5w-30, because it does not.
Try Mobil 1's 10w-30/40 series blend's. It's good protection for the LS1 with a K& N oil filter. I say this because when I purchased the Z28 from the first owner, it contained dino oil. I threw in M1 10w-30 accompanied by a K& N oil filter and gained 2-3lbs of oil pressure in neutral as well as in drive. No lie.
If it gave me oil pressure and makes the engine to this day run smooth with no valvetrain noise and no oil consumption, it's got to be good! There will be no
sludge.

Mobil 1 is a decent oil.
Overpriced now though...since they are now a basestock III oil.

Royal Purple...is bad.
Anyone that actually uses it ever sent it off for a used oil analysis? The wear metals show higher than most ANY other oil.
Never personally sent any off, but having seen the UOA's, I will stick to either Pennzoil Platinum or Amsoil.

But as mentioned...regular changes, and you have little to be concerned with.

I use Mobil 1 5w-40 truck and diesel formula. Its better than 5w30 which is basically a 20W oil as soon as you run it.

I've run M1 in all my cars. My truck had 320K miles on it before I got rid of it.
