Default What gasket do you guys suggest for my set up?

Good afternoon.

I'm still trying to put this set up together and now I need gaskets. I've used the search feature but I'm now even more confused than before.

-What head gasket do you guys recommend for my set up?
-Will I need to replace any other gaskets (headers, intake, ect...)?

Here's my parts so far.

-AFR 205's
-Patriot Gold .650 dual springs kit
-Lucas 42lb Flowmatched injectors
-LS7 Lifters
-Tims valve spring tool
-ARP head bolt kit

The pushrods I will use are hardened comp 7.400 pushrods from the old heads.

Do you guys recommend that I upgrade any other parts that go in the heads (Rockers, pushrods, ect...) or will the parts I have now be fine with my set up?

The AFR heads will NOT be milled. The car will eventually see a 150 shot of nitrous for the track only.

My mods:

-Comp Cams 231/237 .589 .595. @ 112 LSA
-LS6 intake
-SLP LID
-Vig 3600
-Hooker full exhaust

Thanks in advance.

You need to know how much the piston is out of the hole to set up your quench.

They're stock pistons on a stock block..

Other than that, I'm not sure what you mean.

Do a search for quench. I've been reading alot on it latley myself. Basically you take compressed gasket thickness and subtract however much the piston is above the deck of the block. That's your quench. From what I've read, between .035 and .045 is ok. I've seen below .035 that a few guys have done. Most try to get right at .040. It makes a more efficient burn and helps with detonation by being able to run a little less timing and making the same power. You could just throw on a stock size replacement gasket as well. But then you don't know what your quench is.

Hopefully maybe someone more experienced will chime in. Personally I'm going to set up the proper quench when I finally get my new motor.

Get a set of Cometic .040s. That will put your quench around .032-.033. Been running this setup for 2 yrs with my milled AFRs.

if its gonna see the bottle, and the fact that you have low lift on the cam, I would say go with a .030-.040 cometic gasket. You will be happy you did it. I have the .040 cometic with a two stage 300 shot.

Alright everyone,

Thanks for the help.

I think I'll go with stock GM gasket for now because I won't be spraying till much later.

N2O use is NOT the reason for going with the optimum gasket thickness You do it to get the proper quench, which is all a part of the "attention to detail" that makes some combos perform, and some not.

While the heads are off, I suggest you go with the Cometic .040 now, rather than later. Who pulls the heads and changes gasket thickness because they decide to start running the juice?

There has been a bit of mis-information in this thread...
