Default Tappet Noise?

Recent cam swap 232/234 595/598 112 lsa. comp 918 springs. Car runs great smooth (except at idle, love it). There is a slight tappet noise, not real bad , but noticeable to me at least. Seems to quiet down under load. I have heard this is normal and some motors just won't run quiet not matter how much they are adjusted. Others say they should run quiet with proper adjusting. I have experience with older 350 chevy doing the same thing and never could get it to run quiet. So let hear what eveyone thinks.

The factory rockers are non -adjustable so you have to change pushrod length to change lifter preload . Aftermarket cams have a smaller base circle than the factory cam so they require longer pushrods to make-up the difference . This is also subject to whether the cylinder heads have been milled too, which in turn would require a shorter pushrod . There are so many variables to factor in that the only proper way to determine what length pushrods you need is to measure with an adjustable pushrod . You can buy one from many of the sponsers on this site for around $20 , I got mine from Thunder racing . I hope this helps .
