I hope that is all it is with me, but I have doubts in my case. I don't have any hiccups in rpm and motor is running cherry except for that tap/knock/squeek. I did let it warm up to running temp yesterday(sorry, didn't post it) and still does it. It did sound a little better, but could definitely still hear it. I hope it's just a defective lifter but don't think it is. I did change the oil a couple days ago and had some metal on the drain plug, but though it could have been from breaking everything in. Only thing I still have to check is the lifters, cam, and inside the timing cover to see what I find. If it is inside the block, time for a new one The motor only has 300-350 miles since I did the install for H/C, and was about to drive north to get the damn thing tuned. I'm going to wait until a buddy of mine who is on vacation who is also LSX knowledgable to get back to rip it apart.

I changed them out when they had about 100k on the originals. That was about 22k miles ago.

I was thinking of putting some 5W-30 back in mine but don't think moving to 10W would have hurt me at all. I do have a ported oil pump if it matters... which it shouldn't. All valvetrain and timing set was replaced when I put everything in the beginning of July. Piston faces looked awesome for 147k. I know it's alot of mileage but most of it is highway.

I was using 1qt Lucas additive before hand and that stuff did wonders. Was to scared to use it after the install though. I've heard good things about mystery oil too.

Mine is doing the same thing. It started after I changed the oil. I used a can of Seafoam in the off chance I had a gummed up lifter, but that did not work. I use 5w-30. New LS7 lifters, cam, and heads installed Dec 2007. Prior to install I cleaned the lifters and soaked in oil for a day.

Mine sounds like it is coming right from #2 exhaust. A high pitched squeak that goes away when the car is warm. Oil pressure is right at 60psi cold idle and drops to around 40 psi hot idle. Cruising pressure is 50+.

Thought is may be a rocker (70,000 miles, stock), but I have yet to find and needle bearing in the oil and when I removed it (#2 and #4 I/E) they looked fine. I think I may pull the intake and take off the valley cover to get a better look at how that lifter/lobe looks. I have a set of 1.75 Comp Magnum RR I need to install, only holding off till I can chase this down.

Car runs like a raped ape, though.

Seems like this is a wide spread issue. If it does turn out to be a lifter, I am going to shop around for a quality aftermarket. Maybe the Morels.

Ok. Started it up this morning and the squeak is still there but not as loud anymore. Also, i noticed that my oil pressure has gone up about 3-4psi on the mechanical gauge. Interesting. Maybe if i drive the car around more it will free up some more crap and make the squeak less noticeable or goes away.

You should check all of your exhaust header bolts and make sure they are tight.

Hey, I have seen you around town a couple times. I am still praying it's a lifter. I do think it's possible but see what happens... BTW, I actually guessed well. When I heard your car at idle I actually told a friend of mine that was with me "that sounds like a 228R", lol.
Mike

When I put Lucas in, oil pressure would rise about 5-10psi higher and am not suprised it went up. If the squeeking in your case went down then hell yeah. I'm still debating on if I should put 5W-30 back in it and give her a start before ripping her apart yet to see if it is an oil starvation issue possibly. i really don't feel like ripping this engine apart again

Mike,

I did not even catch that you are here in EC. If you need some help tearing her down, let me know.

I feel ya on not wanting to tear it down. I am dreading that, too...but I need to do it. IF I have to yank the heads off, I am gonna go with a custom grind from PatG and flycut more if necessary.

Good guess on the cam. I usually run around town with the cutout open until I get to the neighborhood.
