Default squicking from top half???

Went out to my 99 TA tonight to drive it north to DE and from startup have a squicking noise coming from what seems the top half of the motor. Oil pressure was fine @ 60 psi(car is cold). Idled fine @ 900 and drove fine for the 10 feet I back up out of the drive way before shutting her off again. No SES or anything. I also pulled the drive belt and ran it directly off the battery for 10 seconds or so to see if it might have been a pulley, not a pulley/water pump/alt/power steering issue. I am going to pull the valve covers tomorrow if not diving into it more, but is baffling me because what the hell would squick like that in the motor? Sounds like it's possibly coming from the driver's side head but unsure because my car is so god damn loud

Belt was removed and ran directly off the battery, yupp. AC was removed years ago and compressor was removed so now am down to 1 belt. It sounds exactly like a pulley bearing squicking and has me restless as hell. Most problems are a knocking sound especially coming from the motor??? Has me baffled but guess I'll find out in the morning. I just replaced the tophalf of the motor and all valvetrain is brand spanking new with 300 miles on it.

Does it go away after it warms up?

Didn't wait that long, and pulled the valvecover already. Everything looks fine so am thinking failed lifter that has less than 350 miles on it??? It's possible though but now has developed a slight tap on top of it. I'll have a vid of it up soon. I did swap up from 5W-30 to 10W-30 a couple days ago because it is so damn hot here that it actually completely broke the oil down. i don't think that would be an issue though.

Here a clip of what it sounds like. The tapping is new and started this morning, but you'll hear the squicking I'm talking about.

Yeah, I would quit diving it if it were squiking too! (sorry, had to rib you.)

Of course, driving it with a squeak is a little different. How does your oil pressure look?

My car just started that. Not a hard ticking noise like that but a little squeek while its cold. As soon as its up to operating temp it goes away completely. I'm going to check my oil and see if I find any rocker or lifter guts in it. It may be time for new heads!

Well it started knocking more and now seems to be coming from the bottom half now. I'm most likely going to fricking assume a rod bearing

After hearing the video, it sounds like its going to be expensive. Looks like its time for a rebuild!

I didn't see the vid but a squeak like that is probably a lifter twisted and riding on the cam sideways.

Ticking is what i'd be more worried about.

I can't make out much of a squeek, but i'll tell you I had a squeek / chirp I was chasing for quite a while. I swore up and down it was a pulley like you and I took the belt off and it persisted. Ended up being a small tiny leak in my header gasket.

Maybe check that, but it sounds like it's possible that your squeeking and new tapping noise could be related.

I do believe they are from the same thing and hope I didn't mess up anything else in the process. I'm diving into the motor most likely next weekend. It's my Birthday Sunday and DO NOT WORK ON MY BIRTHDAY. Never have and never will. But hoping it is something small that can be fixed, but won't know for sure til then.
