Exclamation Another tick???

Well, I know these motors are the noisiest things in the world(from the ones I have heard)! Mine has always been one of the quietest I have heard.

About a week ago I was going through the drive thru at Mc d's and there was a strange ticking bouncing off ronalds walls from my motor...So I immediatly went home to check it out.

I popped my hood and could no really hear it. From mc d's it sounded like it was coming from the drivers side. Sooo I stepped away from the car and I could still hear the tick. Then I listend though the fender well. I could hear the tick plain as day! I thought it might be an exhuast leak, but it was bugging the crap out of me.

So I started looking around and noticed my plug wire was loose. I got her back in snugg and tight!!! The tick went away.

Well on my way back from springdale the tick came back. So I made sure the wire was still snug, and it is.

Now I am out of ideas. Should I take my valve cover off and sneak a peak. Do I need new gaskets to put it back on? Has anyone ever had a noise like this???? Sorry for the long post, just wanted to give all details.

I would pull the valve covers off and have a look, and no you wouldn't have to replace the gaskets. But I would also check for an exhaust leak making the noise. Are you throwing any codes, any plug wires burnt or ugly? Just my 2 cents

I just had my exhaust welded a few weeks ago...but I got under it after I posted and poked around. Don't sound like it is coming from the exaust. My plug wires do not sound like they are going all the way down on the plug. What I mean is...
There is a little metal boot that goes around the plug wire boot. When I took that off, the plug wire made a nice clicking like normal onto the plug. When I put the boot back on, I felt it go on, but it didn't make a noise.
Does anyone understand my mumbles!?!?

1. That ticking is fairly normal if you have LT headers. It's the valvetrain noise being amplified by the header tubes. That's why you hear it on the side of the car, especially if you're next to a wall (like at the drive-thru). Went through the same worry phase a few years ago.

2. Its not mandatory to have those metal boots on the wires. I had the same prob w/ 2 of my wires when I swapped from the stock ers to Crane Cams Firewires. I run them w/out the metal boot. No issues. If you're really worried about it, got some of the DEI kevlar wire shields.

Hope this helps ya sleep better at night

That thought about the headers crossed my mine. My question is:

I have owned and driven the car for almost a year now. Why has the noise just came out of no where if it was just my headers amplifieing the noise? The headers were allready on my car when I got it, so wouldn't the noise of allready been there? It was just in the past week that my car had the tick.

I'm not trying to be a dick, just a worry wart!

Oh, Thanks for telling me about the boots. They are coming off tommorow.

I just started my car to go to Mc d's again(I'm not a greasy pig, my girlfriend is the manager there, lol) The tick only seems to be there when I start the car, then fades. Or when I press on the gass and let off to idle a little , then fades again. I wish someone could hear this to get an opion. It's kind of hard to explain one of so many noises found on cars.
