Default How much oil pressure is too much?

Hey all running H/C in sig with a ported and shimmed LS6 oil pump. At idle she sits between 40-60, driving around town normally it sits at about 60 and at WOT its nudging 70-80. Is this too much? How would I know if I have a problem?
Otherwise the car runs fine, and I dont think I really have an issue, just wanted to make sure.

Mechanical guage or are you going by the factory guage?

On my 383 stroker in my 76 camaro I have a high flow high pressure melling pump. I have a mechanical guage so i always know my true oil pressure. Mine reads exactly what yours does. Been like this for 8 years now no problem.

I bought a ported oil pump off a member here, installed it with my H/C last october. My oil pressure reads very close to yours. I assume the pump I got has a stiffer relief spring and might be shimmed too. My tuner said the extra pressure was OK. I have about 17k miles on it since the install, so far so good (knock on wood).

If that's the oil that CMS recommends for the built engine and you're not pegging the pressure in colder weather then you should be fine. I prefer that the pressure be about 10psi lower but that's primarily because after a certain amount of pressure and flow, you are just putting additional strain on the pump, filter, seals, etc.

When you have it open in the future you might consider removing the shim but I wouldn't open it up just for this.

Make sure you keep the oil level where it should be, keep the oil clean, and don't use FRAM filters.
