Pennzoil Platinum 10w30. Best off the shelf oil you can buy. Do research, get some UOA kit and dont belive a thing you see on TV. Royal Purple is worthless, and I used it for years...

I wouldn't say RP is worthless just overpriced. It is a good oil, but seems to break down a little quicker than other oils. Pennzoil plantinum or the VR1 are good off the shelf oils.

that said I still run RP in my car as it is avaliable.

Well...not the oil, but I had a problem with my tranny going into 1st (at the stop light) after the engine got to operating temps. It was right after I got the car and I drove it that way for about two months. As I drove it, it got worse. To the point I had to put it in 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st or I would not be able to start. I swapped the fluid (which looked to be in great shape) out for RP ATF and I immediately got results. It was almost instant that I could go back into 1st at the light. I think I got 30K more out of the tranny (it was two years) before I finally had a failure that I still do not know what happened. I think I broke something as the sliders came out of the tranny with the plug pulled. So, yeah...I think its worth it.

i switch it also at 3,000 miles,i know they say you dont have to switch til like 12000,just change the filter and top the oil of every 3000 or something like that. but i would rather keep fresh oil in my car,and i spoil my car, shes worth every penny!!

RP IS 5 TO 7 HP BETTER THAN ANY OIL YOU CAN BUY AT THE NORMAL PARTS STORE... IF YOUR RP BROKE DOWN FASTER , YOU WERE USING A FRAM FILTER.

RP is one of the best oil out there for preventing wear but I would only use it in a race car that does not see alot of heat cycles and gets changed every so many races. It really cakes/sludges up a street car. I had a thread on it after I took my stock 346 apart with like 42,000 miles the heads only had 12,000mi on them and everything was caked up. My buddies motor had 35,000mi with mobil 1 and was as clean as when new. I use rotella now and when I get the milage on the new motor I will start using mobil 1 with lucas oil stabilizer. if you was to read more on this search for me thread on royal purple sludge.

One of the thing RP advertises is high film strength, which means it sticks to parts. While it may seem good as it sticks to them to lubricate them.... do you really want something sticking to your engine parts? Oils meant to flow and go between to lube not stick to stuff.... and scottbartlett I hope that was sarcasm, or you've been reading their bottlesa little bit too much.

Royal Purple is a good oil, but AMSOIL is so much better. You can go to the web site below and read comparison test results or go to the Sponsors AMSOIL tab on the right.

As far as not seeing a difference between 10w-30 and 5w-30, that's because the number before the "w" is the weight in cold weather. 32 degrees and below. All of that information is on the web site as well. AMSOIL is also producing straight Racing Oil. Even oil for supercharged/turbo charged/nitrous vehicles.

There are also several people who have proven that they received better gas mileage with AMSOIL products.

Go to:

http://synthetic-motor-oilsite.com/1594448/

or use the tab on the right in the Sponsors' area.

I'm using the XPR oil. It is really something else. It really holds up well to WOT runs, and keeping its viscosity when it gets hot, which is very important. Only down side is its Fu**ing expensive.
