Just finished my install. 228/232 cam w/ "LS6/LS2" (whatever you want to label them) 243 heads. They required 7.450 pushrods. Checked w/ a pushrod checker before installing. Also is the norm that is used on my combo according to Va Speed where I got the package.

No valvetrain tapping in my case. So......in short might want to check those pushrods. Too short and they will tick.

Mine tick like a bitch but were installed up by a very reputable shop. Met a guy at the strip last night with TFS heads set up by the same shop and they were as quiet as my moms caddy. I was like WTF cause when I asked the shop they were like dual valvesprings and aggressive lobes are always noisy. Don't worry about it. Those TFS heads were at least as quiet as mine were stock????

Remove the rocker arm & clean the top of the valve stem. Then take a sharpie & color the top of the valve stem. Re-install the rocker arm & turn the engine over 25-30 times using the starter. This should build enough oil pressure to fill the lifter. Where the rocker tip rubs the sharpie color off of the valve tip is the wipe pattern. It should be narrow & in the middle of the valve stem. If your wipe pattern is in this area, then repeat the coloring & this time replace the valve cover & start the engine for a couple of minutes. Remove the valve cover & rocker & check again. If the pattern remained in the same area, you are done. An adjustable push rod length checker is used to move the wipe patern & to confirm the pushrod length.

From what others have noted in this thread w/ set-ups like yours. Sounds like 7.425" or 7.450" is what you are gonna need. Take the time to go through the process of checking the wipe pattern first.

When I bought my car I was told that when you do a cam swap into these cars you get a "Sewing machine sound." My car makes the same noise, like a tick tick tick tick, right? From what i've been told it's normal in these cars, if it isn't, someone please let me know lolol

what viscosity oil r u running? synthetic? could have carbon buildup in the oiling orifice in the lifter. when engine is cold viscosity is lower when it gets to temperature oil is thicker, but only on a split weight. prolly not even close to ur problem but u never know. ive seen some wierd stuff over the past 16 yrs.

I think you may be over complicating this. Get the next step up in pushrods and try them, everything you've said so far just sounds like you're a little light on the pre-load.

All true....But an engine with hydraulic lifters, pushrod length is unrelated with wipe pattern. As any extra length is simply plunged into the lifter. The distance between the lobes and the rocker will be the same regardless as the plunger takes up the difference! Raising the rocker support(via shimming) or machining the base of the support is how you correct wipe. Pushrods only alter preload. In the case of a solid lifter engine pushrods will alter both and the lifters are fixed length!

Get pushrod length correct, then check and adjust wipe if necessary. At mid lift the contact should be at the centre of the valve tip.
