Default how can i tell.

if a lifter fell. i didnt use any magnets or the jr tool to hold the lifters up, but the cam came right out. when i put the cam back in it went right in. if a lifter fell would it stop the cam from goin in? how can i tell if im safe?

When you install the pushrods, one of them will fall way down lower than the others if the lifter is not in it's bore (fell in the pan). A lifter is about 3" long, so you can see how much farther down the pushrod would be once it contacted the cam. It would be very evident that the lifter was missing.

If the lifter only fell partially, the cam would not go in.

i think im safe. i inserted all the pushrods and they all stick up and 2in all around. wew!! my lucky day even though i dont have many. by the way in rippin everything apart again to put an slp double roller in. wont be to bad this time around.

Good Luck with the install.

Make damned sure the oil pickup tube O ring is in properly. Get a new one. Don't re-use the old.

Yeah make sure the o-ring is replaced dont reuse it.

what is the oil oring. is the the circul rubber that goes on over the crank snout?

No, this is the rubber O ring that goes on the oil pickup tube that attaches by 1 bolt to the bottom of the oil pump. The oil pickup tube must be removed from the pump in order to remove the pump. The pump must be removed in order to replace the cam timing chain.

If you did not remove the timing chain when installing your new cam, this does not pertain to you.

I am starting to get a little confused to what you actually did to your engine.

The circular rubber seal that you say goes around your crank snout is in fact the front oil seal. That seal presses into the front cover of the engine.

I think you need to look very carfully at the jmX "How-To" for cam replacement.

Are you doing all this work yourself?

when i did my cam install the first time,i didnt do the timing chain. im gonna rip the car apart again and put in a double roller. yes im doin everything alone

I think Tin meant if you didnt remove the oil pump to do the cam swap then disregard.

Your tracking, as far as whether there all still in there, just spin the cam and watch the pushrods move in relationship to the lobes.

Lube the front seal before you reinstall the pulley, it may tear if you dont, mine did, leaked a lot of oil for a few days then stopped. Later the bottom corners of the timing chain cover started leaking, and i believe they stopped also. Weird....May i suggest you use a liberl amount of Copper RTV on the bottom corners, not so much that it pushes it out into the oil pan, but close...these things leak an enormous amount of oil when not sealed!
