might as well put a better crank in it, and have all forged internals..forged steel can handle way more power than reg steel..

I ran my 346 for 3 years w/150HP NX Gemini 2 kit, and I'm using 3-5 bottles a week. It was flawless. Last fall, I spun # 6 bearing after running the 200HP jets for 2 weeks and twice at the track. I used the stock bottom end and filled it with Callies Compstar crank (4") and Compstar 6.125" rods, and Diamond (coated) pistons (11.1-1). The stock heads went to ET Perf for a Stage 2 CNC w/bigger valves. Fast 92MM and NW 90MM TB. Comp Cams .595"-.598" 232*-234* @ 050" 112LS. I call Demetri at DM Perf and put one of his stainless girdles on the stock block (2002). We had to machine the caps approx. .004" to make them perfectly flat. When we torqued the girdle down, the crank got stiff, just for knowledge-not to rip on anyone. Other than that, it was a perfect fit. He claims the block is now good for 1000 + HP. I had W2W dyno the car from 0 miles. It made 450HP and 400LBS at the wheels. I want to break it in before the NX goes on (200-300HP). I was going to do a 427 but I want to turbo that motor. The 382 is an excellent choice for little money, (concidering quality). Hopefully this helps in your choice. P.S. you have to notch the block, it's easy.

Its a good plan, just make sure you dont spin a main or the block is pretty much toast as far as we're concerned.

All anyone need do is look around the site at all the thrown rods and spun bearings. The LS1 isnt a bullet proof motor. It wont handle to much severe abuse. Every once in a while you get one thats been pounded and sprayed to beat hell and is still ticking. Then you get what I got .. cracked ring land at 84k with only being sprayed twice.

So its 6 of one half dozen of the other. Pay now or pay more later, but your going to pay if you want to play one way or the other...LOL
