Default dome pistons

why does no one hardly run dome pistons? i know they were popular years ago, but they aren't even mentioned on this forum. is it just not in style to gain compression through dome pistons, or is there a legit reason no one runs them?

Because flycutting or valve relief pistons are the best way to gain compression and have adequate PTV clearance.

i'd guess because the stock pistons are already 8-10 thou out of the hole. domes aren't really needed when you can simply use smaller chamber heads and reliefs. too much of a dome will f up the burn. search quench.

There's not really a need for domes. Although. with the new big chamber heads (ls2 and L92) im starting to notice a few.

Think you are right. Stock an LS1 is 7 thou outta the hole normally.
