Default Melling 10296 pump Which spring

I have just purchased one of these pumps and am preparing for my cam install.. I spoke to Thunder Racing about the TR230/224 install and the pump. They said to use the high pressure spring in the pump but I have read on this forum to use the blue one??? Any ideas what is correct??? Also the kit came with two different colored orings......What one is for what???? I bought the pump used off of here with low miles

Thanks in advance

Neil

When I built my engine, I had to use the low pressure spring. Even that one was too high of pressure, so I had to cut a couple coils out of it.

I think the high pressure are only needed for strokers and engines with pretty big clearances like aftermarket cranks and stuff.
Mostly see people running the normal pressure spring with the 296 pumps.I had a 296 but switched to slp version of it. I wanted to run a double roller chain and you have to muck around with the 296 .Not into mucking around.

Anyway think mostly everyone runs lower pressure spring if you have basically stock engine.

I used the spring that came in it. 65psi at idle cold, which drops to ~40 when the motor heats up. That's with 20w50 conventional in a cam-only motor.
