Default Oil pan debris

Changed the oil in my 2002 LS1 today. It is in an RX7. I put a cam kit in it before dropping it in this spring. There was metallic debris on the magnetic drain plug. I attached a picture. Anyone venture a guess what this might be ? The sections that seem to form a round are about 3/4" OD. It looks like more stuff in the photo than in person

TIA,

Steve

Looks like a smashed up piston to me. Bad news bears, did you change springs with the cam, not doing so could cause valve float and piston kisses valve

Are the pieces magnetic? How was the engine running before the oil change? Either way thats not good. Also cut the oil filter can apart and pull out the paper element you may find more bad things. Good luck.

Might be the seat that sits under the valve springs. I would take off the valve covers and have a good look around there.

It is magnetic, no piston. Engine runs fine. The valve cover come off today.

If you don't find any debris under the valve covers or any sign of damage, I'd be pulling the heads to check the lifters. Don't make an expensive mistake. Head gaskets aren't THAT expensive.

No sign of debris or damage under teh valve covers. This thing will be coming apart. I'd like to know where to look ahead of time though to minimize the work. I'm thinking lifter too just not sure what would look like the junk I'm seeing.

I would pull the heads and drop the oil pan. that will show you just about every thing.
